Mission Statement
Emergency Management section fosters prevention, preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation activities to protect our campus from the adverse effects of emergencies. We do this by relying on a multi-discipline collaboration, cooperation, and coordination approach with all departments within the university as well as city, county, state, and federal organizations.
Overview
Pitt’s Emergency Management section provides a comprehensive security and emergency management program for all students, faculty, and staff. The section is dedicated to safeguarding the well-being of our campus community by effectively coordinating response efforts, providing comprehensive training, and developing robust emergency preparedness and business continuity plans. From natural disasters to security threats, we are committed to ensuring a safe and secure environment for all students, faculty, and staff.
Programs and Services
- Activates and manages the Pitt Emergency Operations Center (Pitt EOC) in the event of large-scale emergencies
- Manages Pitt’s Business Continuity program
- Develops, conducts, and coordinates drills and exercises including community-wide exercises, campus exercises, building drills, and departmental exercises (tabletop, functional and full-scale)
- Provides training and information on a variety of emergency preparedness topics
- Reviews, develops, and implements standard operating procedures related to emergency preparedness issues
- Coordinates campus events to highlight emergency preparedness and safety
