Conditions within buildings may have some impact on drinking water, causing the quality to differ from the publicly supplied water, therefore the University of Pittsburgh Department of Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) and the Office of Facilities Management coordinate programs to proactively monitor water quality in our university buildings. A series of internal assessment activities are carried out in order to gather information about the buildings' drinking water.
Drinking Water Testing
EH&S coordinates with building managers to assess their buildings’ drinking water quality. EH&S provides technical support and assistance for urgent drinking water concerns.
Resources
University buildings water is served by the Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority (PWSA), the delivery of safe and reliable water is carefully monitored throughout the public distribution system. This gets accomplished via routine treatment, monitoring, water quality testing, and flushing by the Water Operations Department of the PWSA. The water quality testing is completed to ensure that the delivered water meets the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) state and federal regulations up to the point it enters University buildings. Information on Pittsburgh’s water quality can be found on PWSA’s water quality reports and community lead response information pages.
