Exposure to Potentially Infectious Material

Medical Emergency: If the injury requires immediate medical attention, call 412-624-2121.

If the on-the-job injury involves potentially infectious material and/or a bloodborne pathogen exposure (such as a needlestick, contaminated sharp, blood/body fluid splash, etc.) medical evaluation and treatment must be obtained immediately. Professional evaluation is available at MyHealth@ Work (Employee Health Services).

If MyHealth@ Work is not open, immediately proceed to the UPMC Presbyterian Emergency Department.

OSHA Bloodborne Pathogen Standard requires additional reporting for these types of injuries. A Sharps Injury Report Form (PDF) must be completed by the injured employee's supervisor or departmental designee.
