Police Development Program

The University of Pittsburgh Police Department is looking to fill several positions at its Pittsburgh campus and regional campuses in Greensburg, Johnstown, and Bradford.

To help get you started on your journey, candidates interested in working as a police officer can apply for the Police Development Program, which is an added incentive to join our ranks.

As part of the program, successful candidates will receive free Pennsylvania Police Academy certification, along with housing, a stipend and meals during their training, which is certified by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and valued at approximately $10,000. Once candidates graduate, they must commit to the campus for a minimum of two years. Graduates will gain individualized training & build strong relationships with the university community. Bachelors degree required.

Pittsburgh

The Pittsburgh campus in Oakland offers everything one could expect in a vibrant, big-city setting. Oakland is rich in arts and culture and located within a short walk or drive of restaurants, brewpubs, major college and professional sporting events, theaters, world-class hospitals and Pittsburgh's nightlife.

Other job seekers looking to start a career in law enforcement may desire a different environment, and the regional campuses could be a more attractive option.

Greensburg

The University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg offers the best of both worlds, as its campus of 1,500 full-time and part-time students, 251 employees, and more than 10,000 alumni are situated just minutes from Greensburg's business district and 35 miles from Pittsburgh.

Johnstown

The University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown offers a scenic, natural environment located in historic Cambria County.

Pitt-Johnstown is the University of Pittsburgh's largest regional campus with 3,000 students and is located about 70 miles from Pittsburgh and just a few hours from Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., Baltimore, and Cleveland.

Bradford

The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford offers the largest rural escape, and is situated at the doorstep of the Allegheny National Forest and sits within the Pennsylvania Wilds region, one of the largest greenway expanses between New York City and Chicago. The region is a paradise for anyone who loves outdoor recreation, with more than 2 million acres of public land, wildlife, land and water trails, hunting and fishing, camping, and biking.

Titusville

The University of Pittsburgh at Titusville is two-year, degree-granting regional campus offering an Associate of Sciences in Nursing and combines the advantages of a small college with the resources of an internationally respected institution. 

Additional Information

Candidates for all campuses must be U.S. residents and will be subject to a background check and other requirements. Police Officer candidates must also have a four-year degree.
