Longtime Pitt Office of Public Safety and Emergency Management (PSEM) employee Mark Waechter is about to continue his tenure at the University in a new role on September 1, 2024, as the Operations Manager in the Integrated Security Department (ISD). Waechter started working at PSEM in 2014 as a security guard, became a security technician for ISD in 2019 and accepted the role as project lead technician in May 2022.
During his time at ISD, Waechter has been instrumental in the success of many projects, including the 2020 Wi-Fi locks in the Schenley Quad residence halls, the 2021 Covid building entry stanchions and the 2022 security work at The Assembly.
When the operations manager position was vacated in May, Waechter took on additional responsibilities and has been heavily involved in the planning of security work in the new construction sites at Fifth Avenue and Halket Street, the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center and Victory Heights.
Waechter earned a bachelor's degree in criminology with a minor in child development and family relations from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He also has a Master of Science in safety, security and emergency management from Eastern Kentucky University.
In his role as Operations Manager, Waechter will have oversight on project management in both design and installation of security systems, specifically during the implementation phase.
