Officer Terry Stoudmire named Employee of the Quarter

The Office of Public Safety and Emergency Management is proud to announce that Pitt Police Officer Terry Stoudmire has been named its Employee of the Quarter.

University Club

University Club Reopened

The University Club has reopened and is operational after repairs were made to fix a water valve that burst late Thursday. 

The Club had been without water service since the rupture. There was no damage to the building. 

While all services have been restored, Cafe 1923 will remain closed.

The Department of Environmental Health and Safety joined the Pitt Police to represent the Office of Public Safety and Emergency Management at the 2022 Fall Safety Fair.

The two departments were part of an ensemble that included student organizations, departments and local Pittsburgh organizations at the Student Government Board-sponsored event, which was held Oct. 4 on the lawn outside the William Pitt Union.

The annual pep rally that rings in Pitt's football season wouldn't be the same without the bonfire. And the bonfire wouldn't happen without the Department of Environmental Health and Safety.

Each year, the department, which is part of the Office of Public Safety and Emergency Management, obtains the permits and materials to light the blaze, then staffs the hoses that put it out.

Tina Torquato Named Employee of the Quarter

Tina Torquato has been the well-rounded utility infielder and go-to employee for many projects at the Office of Public Safety and Emergency Management.  

This past year, Tina has served as assistant to Vice Chancellor Ted Fritz while also managing the front desk duties at the Jerome Cochran Public Safety Building, where she always greets workers and visitors with a smile.

Dr. Stitt-Fischer Selected to Lead EH&S

The University of Pittsburgh's Office of Public Safety and Emergency Management is proud to announce that Dr. Molly Stitt-Fischer has been named Director of Environmental Health and Safety.  Molly, who has been with the Department of Environmental Health and Safety since December 2010, will replace Assistant Vice Chancellor Jay Frerotte.  Molly was selected from a pool of highly qualified candidates. 

What You Need to Know About Monkeypox

On Thursday, Aug. 4, the Biden administration through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services declared a national emergency "as a result of the consequences of an outbreak of monkeypox cases across multiple states ... after consultation with public health officials as necessary."

Monkeypox cases have reached more than 17,000 nationally as of Aug. 26, and the declaration will help facilitate distribution of necessary resources, such as vaccines and testing.

Pitt Partners With Allegheny County to Monitor Monkeypox

The University of Pittsburgh’s Student Health Service and the Department of Environmental Health and Safety are working in collaboration with the Allegheny County Health Department to monitor the monkeypox case count locally and the potential impact on the region.

Pitt’s Student Health Service is able to provide monkeypox testing if the need is indicated.

EH&S Planning Emergency Evacuation Exercises Beginning Aug. 4

The Department of Environmental Health and Safety is planning to conduct a series of emergency evacuation exercises starting on Aug. 4..
